MODIFIED DRIVING INSTRUCTION

Expanding Access to Drivers Training in the Treasure Valley

Rocky Road is excited to be partnering with LINC and Access Vans to provide opportunities for people with disabilities in the Treasure Valley to obtain a driver's license.

Through this collaboration, Rocky Road Driving School now offers a dedicated driver training vehicle equipped with hand controls and other adaptive driving equipment for individuals with mobility-related disabilities. The vehicle is designed for drivers who are able to transfer from their wheelchair or mobility device into the driver's seat and operate the vehicle using hand controls rather than traditional foot pedals. This partnership helps expand access to driver education and provides a pathway to independence for many Idahoans with disabilities.

While this is an important step forward, we recognize that additional barriers remain for individuals who require wheelchair-accessible vehicles. LINC is actively pursuing funding to purchase a fully accessible driver training van that would allow us to serve a broader range of drivers and support training opportunities across Idaho.

In addition, there are developments for a comprehensive guide to obtaining a driver's license for people with various disabilities. The guide will include information about the licensing process, available accommodations, adaptive driving resources, and disability-specific considerations for new drivers and their families. We expect the guide to be available later this summer.

If you would like more information or would like to register for the modified driver's training, please contact Hanna with Rocky Road @ (208) 440-1137.
